umm.. who thinks it was gunna float?

Just a bump to an old thread on a list of pegged countries. Little old school history. Mostly the already GCCs  are included here. Kuwait went to a basket sometime back I believe before this And I  never realized they changed back unless they mean pegged to a basket but this is less than a year old....

for those (like me) who are not sure what this means.Best Answer:  A floating currency mean that the exchange rate is determined by the market. A fixed exchange rate is when the government declares the currency to be worth a certain amount (usually in another currency) and buys and sells reserves to maintain it. 
In a floating exchange rate economy, the value of the currency fluctuates more based on numerous economic factors, but it's priced pretty close to its true value. A fixed exchange rate is rarely pegged at its true value; instead, governments usually peg it either over or under its value. When it's over, the government must continue selling its reserves, and when it gets close to running out, investors sell the currency (since the government will have to devalue it.) This is called a speculative attack and can have devastating effects on the economy. Other times it will be undervalued, in which scenario the government must continue to buy reserves. They will undervalue it in order to encourage exports. This practice, employed by China, has been criticized a lot.
