Abu Dhabi, February 26
His Excellency Atheer Al-Ghurairi, Iraqi Minister of Commerce, confirmed that his country has completed the requirements for membership in the World Trade Organization after completing economic reforms and improving the business environment.
In statements to the News, WAM, on the sidelines of his participation in the activities of the Thirteenth Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization, Al Ghurairi pointed out the completion of the files of trade in goods and trade in services within the timetable for joining the global multilateral trading system.
Al-Ghurairi pointed out the interest of the Iraqi government in joining the World Trade Organization after Iraq submitted an application to join in 2004, """out of its belief in the importance of being part of the global multilateral trading system and for Iraq to return to an influential position in the global economy""". He pointed out that there will be a meeting at the level of Arab countries with the aim of learning about their experiences before joining the organization and ways to benefit from its advantages.
The Iraqi Minister of Trade stressed the importance of the activities of the conference held in Abu Dhabi, which is exceptionally organized by the UAE, and pointed out that the conference gives an important message to all countries of the world regarding the importance of joining this organization, in addition to its role in discussing the future of the global trade movement in accordance with the current challenges.
Al-Ghurairi pointed to the Iraqi government's directions to expand and develop economic and trade relations at all levels with all countries of the world, and to open new frameworks for economic and trade cooperation.

This looks like a country that is hot and heavy with accession plans. The mood sure looks like the are being well recieved by the masses too. Using workding like completion of files in trade in goods and trade in services for Iraq to return to an influential position in the global economy is powerful language to be using.
