Today, Sunday (March 17, 2024), former Kurdish opposition MP Yusra Rajab described the current situation in the region’s cities as “paralyzed” as a result of the delayed payment of employee salaries.
Rajab said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "The regional government's refusal to pay employees' salaries despite sending them by the federal government is a clear and explicit challenge to the decision of the Federal Court."
She added, "The federal government is required to impose its procedures because the regional government did not fulfill its duty and pay employees' salaries, even though 47 days have passed since the last salary was distributed ."
She pointed out that "employees have begun to go on strike, warning of a complete return to life's paralysis, and the regional government wants to circumvent the Federal Court's decision to settle salaries ."
The departments of land registration, notary public, electricity, traffic, Peshmerga retirement, and a number of schools went on strike today, and threatened to continue their strike if the employees’ salaries were not disbursed for the month of February, which is supposed to be distributed at the end of the month, but an additional 17 days have passed in the new month without distribution. Salaries.
Five days ago, the Federal Ministry of Finance announced that it would send salaries to Kurdistan retirees and social welfare employees, while indicating that it would not send salaries for the month of March until settlement was completed.
For its part, the Ministry of Finance of Kurdistan said that it requested funding of the salaries of salary recipients in the region in full and without discrimination by the Ministry of Finance of the Federal Government for the month of February in an amount of more than 949 billion dinars, but the Federal Ministry of Finance only funded 560 billion and 219 million dinars, which is It represents (59%) of the region’s total salaries, which led to the creation of a deficit in disbursing the region’s salaries for the month of February,” according to the Kurdistan Ministry of Finance.
