Deputy Head of the Government Electronic Communication Team, Adnan Al-Arabi, said, “The team, in light of the Prime Minister’s instructions to follow up on the file of government and private generators and oblige contractors to install meters to determine operating hours, implemented several campaigns in coordination with Baghdad Governorate and the supporting security forces, to follow up on the extent of their commitment to these instructions.”

He stated that "the campaigns revealed that the compliance rate is almost non-existent, and contractors still receive collections at the beginning of the month as before and not at the end of the month, and that they did not commit to installing the meters in the first place," according to the government newspaper Al-Sabah.

Al-Arabi pointed out that “the coming days will witness an expanded meeting between the team and the Baghdad Governorate, to reach a real solution to this issue, especially with the noticeable increase in the operating hours of national electricity,” noting that “the local government had previously obligated the legal departments in all the mayors and administrative units to coordinate.” With the security forces to follow up on contractors’ field campaigns and file a criminal complaint against violators.”
