The Parliamentary Transport and Communications Committee intends to open files related to mobile phone companies regarding their work and the debts they owe, confirming its intention to hold accountable those who are negligent in collecting debts from Zain Iraq and Asiacell.
Member of the Parliamentary Committee, Aqeel Al-Fatlawi, told Al-Sabah, followed by Mawazine News, that his committee is preparing to open files related to mobile phone companies operating in the country, related to their work and the debts owed by them, pointing to the preparation of special reports for the Media and Communications Authority through which negligent employees will be held accountable. About collecting debts from mobile phone companies in general, revealing at the same time the existence of debts owed by Zain Iraq and Asiacell.
He warned that it will be clarified to the public opinion why the Communications and Media Commission has not claimed these debts and the reasons for their accumulation until now, especially with the existence of laws in the state’s annual budgets that confirm that debts must be paid before approving the budget, and in the event of refusal, the license will be withdrawn from the debtor company.
Al-Fatlawi continued that the committee’s work during the coming period will focus on files related to providing information and communications services to citizens, stressing that there is a serious follow-up in this regard to hold accountable any negligent party in this aspect.
It is noteworthy that the parliamentary committee previously revealed Korek Company’s debts, which exceeded one billion dollars.
