These waffles get a flavor boost from orange zest plus a medley of warming spices, including cinnamon, ginger and cloves. Drizzle the waffle with maple syrup and enjoy a delicious breakfast treat.

    Ingredients:

    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1/2 cup sugar
    • 2 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
    • 2 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
    • 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
    • 2 tsp. baking powder
    • 3/4 tsp. salt
    • Finely grated zest of 1 orange
    • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
    • 1 3/4 cups milk
    • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
    • 4 Tbs. (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted
    • Maple syrup for serving

    Directions:

Preheat a waffle maker on medium-high heat according to the manufacturer's instructions.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, baking powder, salt and orange zest until well combined. Add the eggs, milk, vanilla and butter and whisk until smooth.

Pour about 1/2 cup batter into each well of the waffle maker. Close the lid and cook until the waffles are golden and crispy, 4 to 6 minutes. Serve immediately with maple syrup. Makes 8 waffles.
