Italy Becomes Base for Armed US Drone Operations in Libya
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Daesh terrorist group, occupying vast territories in Syria and Iraq, has been increasing its presence in Libya, which has been locked in a conflict since the overthrow of long-time leader Muammar Gaddafi.
In January, media reported that US President Barack Obama was making plans to open a third front against Daesh in Libya, following military operations in Syria and Iraq started by a US-led coalition in 2014.
"I would expect an awful lot of cooperation… [from] a lot of the countries," McGurk reporters during a White House press briefing, listing Italy and France among others. "[W]e’re talking about taking a leading role, but mainly a leading role in supporting a new government of national accord [in Libya]."

The United States believes that its partners in Europe are willing to support the US-led coalition in going after the terror group Daesh in Libya, Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter the Islamic States Brett McGurk told said on Tuesday.
