I am always proud to be a small part of the Nashville organization, however on days like yesterday, when the Predators organization donates a half million dollars to MEND… well my pride just overflows.

MEND is an organization dedicated to eliminating domestic violence against women and girls and making the Nashville the safest city for women in the country. The CEO of the Predators, Sean Henry has been a driving force behind the Preds involvement. "Writing a check is one thing, saying we're involved is another, but having those four guys involved is tremendous," Henry said. The four guys involved are Mike Fisher, PK Subban, Ryan Ellis and Austin Watson, they appear in this commercial with TSU basketball head coach Dana Ford and Shan Foster (SEC basketball fans will remember him) who is the director of MEND. It’s powerful stuff…

Putting their names and faces on this effort has a real impact…tonight is MEND night… $5 for each ticket sold is being donated to MEND and more information about this important effort will be shared throughout the game.

So, how can we get involved? Donate… if you can’t donate… then raise awareness, use social media with the hashtag #unsilencetheviolence. If you have a young man in your sphere of influence, talk with him. It starts with educating young men and planting a seed, so that later in life, they'll not only do the right thing in their own lives, but will also pass it along to the next generation.

    Now... on to tonight's preview...

A fascinating matchup in Smashville tonight as the Columbus Blue Jackets and Nashville Predators renew acquaintances at Bridgestone Arena. Bitter rivals while both were part of the Central Division, now just an occasional battle... Two teams with the exact same objectives in mind… wash the taste of a bad loss out their mouths and go into the All-Star break on a good note.

Tuesday night was not a good night for either team as Columbus lost to the New York Islanders, dropping their sixth in eleven games (after their historic 16 game win streak) and Nashville blew a two goal lead in the last six minutes to drop an OT decision to Buffalo. Post game pressers for both coaches were rather truculent.

Columbus was the big story in hockey over the holidays, their 16 game win streak took them from the outhouse to the penthouse in the Eastern Conference, made the team the darlings of the NHL and head coach John Tortorella the Jack Adams favorite at midseason. In the three weeks since Washington snapped that streak, the Jackets are floating a bit, as often happens when a team goes on a run like that (look no further than Philly’s ten game run.)

Defensively, the Jackets have been a mess… they are giving up more than three goals a game since their streak and goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky has been pulled twice in his last six starts, including Tuesday night. Columbus has fallen behind Washington in the Metro Division and has a three point lead over Pittsburgh for second. Cam Atkinson is leading the Blue Jackets with 24 goals, Nick Foligno and Brandon Saad have 17 and 15 respectively.

Nashville knows that they are playing a really good hockey team tonight, a dangerous team that is wounded a bit. The Predators have to have a fast start after Tuesday night’s disappointment. The Preds have a four game point streak on the line and have gathered points in seven of their last eight games, posting wins in six of them, allowing them to make a move in the Central Division to the top three.

The team is clicking offensively, and save the collapse on Tuesday, has played very solid defense as well. I expect Pekka Rinne in net after Juuse Saros got the nod on Tuesday. Rinne is usually very good with additional rest. The injury situation looks static for Nashville, with Petter Granberg, Miikka Salomaki and Roman Josi still listed on IR, the Jackets only list David Clarkson on their injury list.

Game time is 7pm, limited tickets remain. Coverage on 102.5 the Game and Fox Sports Tennessee.

    Random Notes

Where We Stand – After last night’s play, the Nashville Predators have 54 points in 48 games played and stand 3rd in the Central Division, trailing the division leading Wild by 13 points (-1 GIH) and 2nd place Chicago by 11 points with two games in hand. Nashville leads 4th place St. Louis by one point, the Blues are in the first Wild Card slot, Vancouver is now in the second slot trailing the Blues by one point, St. Louis has one game in hand over the Canucks.

    - Score first and get a point… that’s been the MO for Nashville as they are the only team in the NHL without a regulation loss when scoring first. They are 15-0-5 when scoring first.

    - Peter Laviolette is only the second US born coach to win 500 NHL games… the first? Tonight’s opponent’s head coach John Tortorella.

    - Ryan Johansen has been on a roll as he meets his former team tonight, he has six points in his last three games. Assuming he plays, tonight is Johansen’s 400th NHL game.
