    Egyptian archaeologists have found 28 mummies in basements discovered in Minya province south of Cairo, Antiquities Minister Khalid Anani said Saturday.
    Anani said that a team of paleontologists at the University of Cairo has discovered the first cemetery in the history of Central Egypt, which includes in the first phase 28 mummy, the entrance to the archaeological area.
    Mummies are thought to be of people from the "elite", which is indicated by layers of gold covered with them.
    "We found catamarans containing a number of mummies," Salah al-Kholi, head of the team responsible for the discovery, told a news conference.
    The discovery of this discovery in the region of "Tuna mountain" desert west of Minya province, note that the first discoveries in the region back to 1931.
    "This is the first human cemetery in Central Egypt with this number of mummies, and it preaches that there is a big cemetery behind it," Khouli said at a conference held in a giant tent near the discovery site.
    According to al-Khouli, the cemetery was exposed to "old or new".
    The discovery was supervised by a team of researchers at Cairo University.
    "We will continue to fund archaeological excavations and support them in Touna al-Jabal so that we can turn them into an important archaeological center on the tourism map in Egypt," said university president Gaber Nassar.
