US Defense Secretary Jim Matisse reiterated the importance of the strategic partnership on the military level between his country and Qatar, pointing to the continuation of this cooperation despite the Gulf crisis.
"The two ministers reaffirmed their countries' commitment to cooperation and deepen the strategic partnership between Washington and Doha," a statement issued by the Pentagon following a telephone conversation between Matisse and his Qatari counterpart Khaled al-Attiyah said.
It should be noted that President Donald Trump has recently accused Qatar of having a history of financing terrorism at a very high level. "The United States should stop funding terrorism and it is time to call on Qatar to end this funding," he said.
Saudi Arabia led a comprehensive boycott campaign for Qatar joined by a large group of Arab and Islamic countries including Egypt, including economic and diplomatic restrictions in the face of Doha.
Trump's comments came at a time when the countries of the province of Qatar issued a statement in which he praised the list of demands from Qatar and take appropriate measures against Doha at the right time and place.
