Saudi Arabia's civil defense teams on Monday vacated a hotel in Mecca of pilgrims from Yemen and Turkey after a fire broke out in an air conditioning unit on the eighth floor of the hotel's 15-storey building.
The spokesman for the General Directorate of Civil Defense in Mecca, Major Nayef Sharif, said that all the residents of the hotel (600 pilgrims) were evacuated by rescue units, while the fire was taken control, and no one was hurt or injured.
Subsequently, the Department opened an investigation into the causes of the incident, in coordination with the concerned authorities. After the danger was removed, the hotel's residents were allowed to return to their rooms.
On a related subject, the Saudi Hajj authorities said that the number of pilgrims arriving this year, through Jeddah and Madinah airports, as well as land and sea, exceeded one million. Sf
