    North Korea "supports" gold

    16:50 - 01/09/2017

Gold fell on Friday on a limited sell-off after recent rallies and as investors awaited US jobs data to take interest rates.

But demand for the metal was a safe haven that kept prices near a nine-and-a-half-month high as North Korea continued to tense.

At 06:53 GMT the spot price of gold was down 0.2 percent at $ 1318.81 an ounce, not far from a record high of more than nine months at $ 1325.94 Tuesday.

Meanwhile, US gold futures rose 0.2 percent to $ 1324.20 an ounce, Reuters reported.

"We have a profit taking, especially in the light of the recent rally to near $ 1325 an ounce," said R and Donald Long, chief trader at Hong Kong's Le Cheong Gold Trading.
