    The Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Reza Najafi, reviewed the positions of the Group of 77 in the meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors in the area of ​​security and nuclear security.
     
    On the first day of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors meeting on Monday, Najafi spoke as chairman of the Group of 77 on measures to enhance international cooperation in the field of radiation, shipping, transportation and safety of nuclear waste.
     
    Najafi pointed to the importance of nuclear safety in the peaceful programs of the member states, adding that the primary responsibility in the area of ​​nuclear safety is the responsibility of the member states, and that the remarks in this regard should not affect the process of the peaceful use of nuclear technology.
     
    He praised the IAEA's support to developing countries in activating their nuclear programs, finding or strengthening the nuclear security infrastructure and providing the possibility of security systems for the member states, adding that the Group of 77 encourages the Agency to continue its efforts in assisting countries in developing nuclear safety capabilities and skills as well as strengthening security systems. And the infrastructure needed to develop nuclear energy.
     
    On the other topic on the agenda of the meeting on nuclear security and its report in 2017 by the Group of 77, he said that the responsibility for nuclear security is also the responsibility of the member states completely and it is necessary that the Secretariat of the International Atomic Energy Agency amend item 2 of this report On the basis of the position of the Group of 77.
     
    Najafi said that the remarks on nuclear security should not affect the peaceful use of nuclear energy, including through the technical cooperation program (TC). He added that the role of the IAEA in enhancing nuclear security and continuing the scope of activities as declared in the resolutions of the Board of Governors and resolutions of the General Conference of the Agency , Must be appointed by member states and it is necessary to find a balance between the upgrading and non-upgrading activities of the Agency.
     
    He said the decisions of the IAEA General Conference underscore the pivotal role of the group in enhancing nuclear security worldwide and coordinating international activities in the field of nuclear security.
    Regarding the development of human resources in the field of nuclear security, Najafi said that the Group of 77 welcomes the Agency's continued support for comprehensive human resource development activities aimed at ensuring the stability of national nuclear security systems.
     
    The G77 welcomed the training of 2111 delegates from 134 countries as well as the electronic training of 1079 delegates from 122 countries by the IAEA and requested the IAEA Secretariat to expand its activities in the field of energy development in member countries, especially developing countries.
