The cost of fighting forest fires in the United States exceeded $ 2 billion in 2017, a record high and confirmed the need to consider the budget of the US Forest Commission, most of which go to fight fires.
"The Forest Commission's spending on fire suppression in recent years has risen from 15 percent of the budget to 55 percent or even more," Sky News quoted US Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue as saying in a written statement. "We need to continue borrowing from dedicated forest management funds."
"The Forestry Department, one of the branches of the US Department of Agriculture, could have spent this money on logging or measures aimed at reducing forest fires," he said.
"The funding formula used to allocate funds to extinguish the fires is no longer sufficient amid the longer-lasting fires that destroy larger areas of public land, mostly in the American West," he said. "Congress must treat massive forest fires, Covered by emergency funds ". Ending / 25 z
