    Follow-up / Sky Press:

President Donald Trump said negotiations with North Korea over its nuclear program were a waste of time after the United States announced opening channels of communication with Pyongyang.

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said earlier that the United States had channels of communication with North Korea and was investigating whether the regime was ready to hold a dialogue on abandoning its nuclear weapons program.

"I told Rex Tilerson, our wonderful foreign minister, that he was wasting his time trying to negotiate with the man of the small missile," Trump said in a tweet on Twitter, referring to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

"Save your energy, we'll do what needs to be done," Trump told his secretary Tilerson.

"We are testing, stay tuned," Tillerson told reporters after talks with Chinese officials in Beijing. "We are not in a dark situation or in a blackout. We can talk to them and we do it."

"Despite assurances that the United States is unwilling to push the current regime down, to seek regime change, to accelerate the unification of the Korean peninsula, or to move the forces of the north of the demilitarized zone," said State Department spokesman Heather Naort, North Korean officials have shown no sign of willingness or willingness to engage in dialogue on nuclear disarmament.
