French Defense Minister Florence Barley warned the United States of the serious consequences of its possible withdrawal from a nuclear deal with Iran, saying it would be the first step toward future wars.
"We need a comprehensive joint action plan," Barley said in a speech at the Washington Institute for Strategic and International Studies. "Giving up will be a gift for supporters of Iran's tough political approach and will be a first step in a path leading to future wars."
Barley stressed the need to "deal very seriously with Iran's destabilizing activities in the region, including its ballistic program."
"We are working on that," she said.
These statements come against the backdrop of the announcement by US President Donald Trump on October 13 that Iran's commitment to the nuclear agreement is not recognized, calling on members of the US Congress to address "many weaknesses" in it and threatening to withdraw his country if its demands are not met.
