Guterich warns against canceling Iran's nuclear deal without alternative

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterich on Thursday warned against the cancellation of an international agreement on Iran's nuclear program unless there is a good alternative to replace it.
"If we reach a better agreement one day to replace it, then it is okay, but we should not cancel it if we do not have a good alternative," Guterich said.
"I think the comprehensive joint action plan (the Iranian nuclear agreement) was an important diplomatic victory, and I think it will be necessary to preserve it, but I also think that there will be cases where a constructive dialogue will be needed because I think the region is in a very dangerous situation," he said.
"I understand the concerns of some countries about Iranian influence in other countries in the region, so I think we have to separate things from each other," he said.
US President Donald Trump has threatened to pull out of the deal, sparking diplomatic tension with Iran as well as with Washington's allies keen to maintain the deal.
