Iraq compensates oil Kirkuk from the fields of the south

     Baghdad / AFP

The oil ministry announced on Saturday the increase of the country's oil exports from the southern port by 200 thousand barrels to compensate for the interruption of Kirkuk oil pumping because of the conflict with the Kurds. "The Basra Oil Company started on Saturday pumping 200 thousand barrels per day from the southern and central fields, in addition to the three million and 200 thousand barrels currently exported," the statement quoted Minister Jabbar al-Allaibi as saying.
Al-Allaibi said that "the decision we have taken comes as compensation for the amounts lost by Iraq as a result of the decline of oil exports from the northern fields through the port of Ceyhan Turkish because of law enforcement operations in Kirkuk and a number of northern provinces." Federal forces recovered all the oil fields in the oil-rich city of Kirkuk, which was seized by the Peshmerga in 2014.
However, the federal authorities are unable to export oil through the northern pipelines because of the damage caused by the military operations against Da'ash, . Al-Allaibi added that the pumping of new quantities will be continued until oil exports from the northern fields return to their previous levels. The oil minister said he would seek clarification from Russian oil giant Rosneft over contracts signed with Iraq's Kurdistan region.
Speaking at a news conference in Baghdad, Luaibi said Rosneft confirmed that the contracts were preliminary and not ready for implementation. He gave no further details.
On Thursday, Rosneft agreed to control Iraq's main oil pipeline, boosting its investment in the autonomous region to $ 3.5 billion. The Iraqi government has warned companies to sign contracts with the Kurdistan region of Iraq, and seized the Iraqi forces this week control of Kirkuk, rich in oil from Kurdish forces. The pipeline usually transfers 600,000 barrels a day, but that amount fell to 200,000 bpd only this week after Iraqi forces took control of Kirkuk.
