The death toll from Hurricane Damre, which hit central and southern Vietnam, has risen to at least 27 people just days before the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders Summit began.
Damari, the 12th hurricane to hit Vietnam this year, arrived on land yesterday with winds of up to 90 kilometers per hour, destroying more than 40,000 houses, dropping electricity poles and uprooting trees.
The Communist Party's disaster protection steering committee said 27 people had died and 22 were missing.
The Commission added that 626 houses were completely destroyed. More than 30,000 people have been evacuated. Ending / 25
