The Egyptian Dorin Asaad was appointed mayor of the city of Prossar in the Canadian province of Quebec, becoming the first Egyptian mayor in the history of Canada since its discovery in the fifteenth century AD.

Asaad won more than 39 percent of the municipal vote, with her closest rival winning 25.80 percent of the vote, but was unable to persuade voters to give him a sixth term as mayor.

Doreen Asaad, a Canadian citizen of Egyptian origin, was elected in 2009 as a member of the city council and has been living in the town of Broussard for 15 years.
