The Iraqi Bar Association on Tuesday called on the House of Representatives to withdraw the proposed personal status law, considering it to enshrine sectarian identity at the expense of the principles of citizenship.
The union said in a statement received by Alsumaria News, a copy of it, "It was held on Tuesday, a broad meeting to discuss the proposal to amend the Personal Status Law No. 188 of 1959 amended," noting that "the present members of the House of Representatives and representatives of diplomatic bodies and human rights organizations and civil society and lawyers, In their interventions and opinions and analysis of the full extent of the proposal. "
