    [ltr]Iraq's Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday it had bought 90,000 tonnes of American rice in a direct deal outside the tender system.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The deal was signed with the US ADM at a price of $ 648 per tonne, ministry spokesman Mohammad Hanoun said.[/ltr]
    [ltr]European traders said rice would be shipped from November 2017 to February 2018.[/ltr]
    [ltr]Iraq also confirmed on November 6 that it had bought 500,000 tons of wheat in direct purchases from Cargill, ADM and a third unnamed company.[/ltr]
    [ltr]In May, the Iraqi cabinet authorized the Ministry of Commerce to make direct purchases of wheat and rice to ensure food security.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The Ministry of Commerce said the contract was in accordance with contractual specifications of Iraq.[/ltr]
