The Washington Post reported Friday that American Jewish billionaire Sheldon Adelson had pushed President Donald Trump to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. According to White House officials, Trump did not understand the consequences of Whose decision was opposed by a large number of his aides and the Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs.

"Adelson, 84, has been pressing for months on Trump and through his associates to recognize Washington as Jerusalem as the capital of Israel," the newspaper, which was followed by the Trend Press, quoted several aides as saying.

"The Jewish billionaire was furious when he attended a dinner at the White House earlier this year because of the postponement of recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel," they said.
"Trump met him last March and told him that he had decided to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish state," the paper quoted law scholar Alan Dershowitz as saying.

The newspaper added that "some of the president's aides, managed to discourage him from announcing the decision in the past months, even Trump was not satisfied when he signed in June the decision to postpone the implementation of the law issued by the Congress in 1995 by obliging the government to declare Jerusalem as the capital of Israel for six months, What he used to do, twice a year, the presidents who ruled the country during the past two decades. "

The newspaper said that "supporters of the decision in the management of Trump are Vice President Mike Bens and his adviser and the husband of his daughter Jared Kouchner and the representative of Washington to the United Nations, Nicky Haley, as opposed to some of his aides in the White House, in addition to the Ministers of Defense and Foreign Affairs.

She pointed out that "close to Trump from the circle that trusts from outside the administration, tried to discourage him from making a decision, such as billionaire Tom Parrick."

"This is mad, we all resisted this decision," the Washington Post quoted one of them as being well-known to Trump from outside the administration.

"The announcement of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel will satisfy its electoral base, so it must do so," she said.

"The decision has nothing to do with the peace process in the Middle East, and the president has taken it to appease the electoral base," a White House official said.
