Justice responds to critics of recent wave of executions

     Baghdad / Range

Justice Minister Haider Zamili expressed his surprise at the objections of human rights organizations to the death sentences imposed on those convicted of terrorist acts. He stressed that the ministry is a party that implements judicial rulings and is committed to constitutional texts and humanitarian standards. This came during a meeting with the Minister of Justice Zamili, in his office in the ministry, Assistant US Ambassador to Iraq. A statement by the Ministry of Justice said that Minister Haider al-Zamili discussed with the Assistant US Ambassador to Iraq details of bilateral cooperation and the importance of enhancing cooperation in order to enhance the general aspects of the ministry's work with the official bodies at the international level and exchange experiences and information.
Zamili stressed that "the ministry is concerned with the implementation of the death sentences against the perpetrators and this aspect falls within its competence in the implementation of the judgments of the Iraqi judiciary." "Every time the perpetrators and terrorists are executed, the voices opposed to the execution of justice against terrorists are carried out. They carried out horrific massacres against innocent people over the past years, the last of which is the massacres of gangs that encourage terror and criminality," he said.
