The parliamentary legal committee said on Sunday that the timing proposed by the Council of Ministers for the upcoming elections must be voted by the House of Representatives.
Committee member Ibtisam al-Hilali said in statements that "the Iraqi government has proposed a date for the next elections, and adoption of this date can only be through a vote of the House of Representatives, and the right of the House of Representatives to change the date sent by the government, and therefore in accordance with the powers granted to the House of Representatives."
Adding that, "there is a political movement to postpone the elections, and perhaps this movement impede the ratification of the date of the next election, that ratification requires a quorum and a vote of the majority of deputies on it."
