The London-based Arabic newspaper Al-Arab reported on the latest alliances in political parties in Iraq.
"The last day of the coalition registration deadline for the Iraqi elections scheduled for next May has been the announcement of a number of alliances, a few of which came out of expectations, while the other translated understandings highlighted by the media over the past few weeks. Until the evening, the debate over Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi's intentions and his consultations with various blocs continued, after his close associates announced that he would lead a new electoral bloc called "Victory and Reform."
The media official in the office of Iraqi Prime Minister, Haider Hamadeh, said Abadi planned to launch a cross-sectarian electoral bloc to participate in the May ballot.
He added that "a large number of candidates for blocs and alliances are seeking to join him, including the volunteers who fought and urged," in reference to the militias of the popular crowd. He explained that "Abbadi stipulated on the candidates in the coalition bloc commitment to stay away from quotas in government sites."
But the surprise came with the announcement, on Thursday, that Abadi is close to signing an alliance with the leaders of the popular crowd.
The house of the leader of the Badr Organization Hadi al-Amiri held a meeting on Thursday, gathering prominent leaders in the popular crowd of the prominent leader of the Dawa Party, Abdul Halim Zuhairi, representing Abadi.
According to leaks from the meeting, the two parties agreed to run in a single coalition, before Abadi's representative withdrew on news of the collapse of the agreement because of "a legal obstacle."
Haidar al-Abadi, a member of the Islamic Dawa Party, faces a legal ban against an election coalition outside the state-led coalition led by Nuri al-Maliki. Maliki has registered the Dawa Party as part of the components of the rule of law in the Electoral Commission. According to the Iraqi electoral law in force, the party is not allowed to participate in two electoral alliances.
In response to journalists' questions on the position of the Dawa party to participate in the elections, Maliki on Thursday confirmed his support for all options available for the participation of the party in the elections provided that the options are legal and allow the party and its cadres to participate in the elections and reserved for the call and unity, which reveals, according to observers, Implicit in the legal problem faced by Maliki and the Dawa Party.
Media sources close to Abadi accused Maliki of registering the Dawa Party in the election commission without a decision from the party. I promised it was an individual that did not serve the party or its masses, calling it a betrayal.
3 options in front of Haider Abadi
► Accept the number 2 in the list of al-Maliki
► Resignation from the Dawa Party
► Pending the amendment of the electoral law
    If Abadi does not find a way out, he will have to choose between three solutions. The first is to accept the number two in a list headed by al-Maliki; the second is to resign from the Dawa party;
According to a member of the Political Bureau Ibrahim Sumaidai of the Iraqi Congress Party, the last hours of negotiations between the representative of Abadi and leaders of the crowd saw "difficult understandings", threatening to collapse this alliance "before the announcement."
He considered an Iraqi political observer that the alliance with the popular crowd "if it was actually" he has directed the most severe blow to the forces of the civil movement, which was until recently bet on his reforms.
The observer assumed in a statement to the "Arabs" that Abadi has gone to the wrong side in his attempt to remove the leader and his rival Maliki from the political scene. That is because Maliki has also begun bidding on the popular crowd early on, believing it would be the lever that would be able to bring him back to power.
He expressed his regret that Abadi would rally in his rival to Maliki, which means that Shiite leaders do not have many options and have no political projects for the post-2018 elections.
"With the alliance of the slaves with the crowd, he will not be able to bully others as much as he has put himself at the service of a party that wants to be alone in power, so the prime minister will be a temporary facade."
In confirmation of the state of confusion of the last hours between the electoral entities, Sumaidaie expected to announce the extension of the deadline for registration of alliances, which ended at the end of the official working day of Thursday.
"Alliances change every moment," Sumaidaie said, noting that the atmosphere threatened to delay the elections.
According to observers, if the coalition registration deadline is extended until Sunday evening, according to expectations, the possibility of changing coalitions is forthcoming.
They say some of the alliances have been concluded under the pressure of time, because the parties are obliged to respect the deadline of the Commission or they will not be able to participate in the elections.
At the time of the preparation of this report, there was no announcement by the Electoral Commission on the extension of the deadline or the closure of the registration.
The leader of the Sadrist movement, Amir Kanani, announced an alliance that includes several political forces and bears the name "revolutionaries."
Kanani said that "the alliance of revolutionaries will include many political forces, and was the blessing of the leader of the Sadrist movement Moqtada al-Sadr."
In the Sunni arena, most of the political forces resolved and signed local alliances. The most prominent electoral coalition was the one that included the leader of the National Coalition, Iyad Allawi, the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament Salim al-Jubouri and the leader of the Arab coalition, Saleh al-Mutlaq, with a number of small parties.
And learned "Arabs", "Allawi is to lead the list, while booking Jubouri No. 2 in it."
According to informed sources, "another election gathering led by former Defense Minister Khalid al-Obeidi, reached a preliminary understanding with Prime Minister Haider Abadi to ally with him in the upcoming elections."
On the Kurdish scene there were no reports of political understandings, except for the announcement of the alliance of the leader of the Barham Salih Justice Rally with the Change and the Islamic Group, to contest the elections in the disputed areas in one list.
