     Follow-up / Sky Press:

British police are conducting an investigation into the torture and cruel treatment of Qatari nationals by UAE officials after their lawyers provided information to prove this.

Rodney Dixon, who represents three Qatari nationals who were jailed and tortured in UAE prisons between 2013 and 2015, was quoted as saying that "UAE nationals can be questioned and arrested if they enter the UK under laws that allow it."

"We provided information on 10 suspects, all Emirati citizens in official positions, who were either directly involved in torture, were responsible and could not prevent torture," he said.

The three Qatari nationals are Mahmoud al-Jaidah, Hamed al-Hammadi and Yousef al-Mulla, who were arrested by the UAE without charge at various times between 2013 and 2015

"We do not have the ability to ensure enforcement of these rights in the UAE, which is very unfortunate," said human rights lawyer Toby Kadman.
