The Ambassador of the United States of America to Iraq, Douglas Seelman, accompanied by Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program Liz Grande on Friday visited several sites of the Nineveh Plain to highlight the partnership between the two sides in supporting the Iraqi government's efforts to help vulnerable minorities to return to Their places after the liberation of their areas of the hustle.
During his visit to the historic cities of Hamdania and Karamlis, which are inhabited by Christians and are home to Syriac Catholics and Chaldean Catholics, Ambassador Silliman reiterated the commitment of the United States Government to support the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) funding for the restoration of stability.
Since 2015, the United States has provided $ 190.3 million to the Facility for Stabilization Finance Facility, which includes a recent $ 75 million contribution, some of which were earmarked by the United States for projects specifically located in the Nineveh Plain. The United States has also pledged an additional contribution of $ 75 million for 2018.
The US government also plans to fund up to $ 39 million for non-governmental and private organizations to help stabilize ethnic and religious minority communities in the Nineveh Plain and western Nineveh, bringing our total funding for stabilization activities to $ 300 million. On the other hand, the United States has contributed more than $ 1.7 billion in humanitarian aid since 2014 to conflict-affected Iraqis displaced by the threat posed by Dahesh.
"We are committed to supporting UNDP programs such as these to achieve stability, so that all displaced Iraqis from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Return to their liberated and stable areas). The US government recently approved $ 2.6 million for rehabilitation by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) for the hospital and the purchase of medical equipment. "When I look at this building, I see it as a symbol of hope, hope to see days of peace and prosperity for the people of this society."
"We are very grateful to the United States government for its contribution," UNDP Resident Representative Liz Grande said, adding that the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has implemented more than 1,000 projects throughout Nineveh province. With ongoing support, we can speed up this important work and help return hundreds of thousands of displaced Iraqis back to their homes. "
The visit also included meetings with Syriac Catholic and Chaldean religious leaders and a tour of the primary health care center in Karamlis, another UNDP stabilization project partly funded by the United States.
