    A senior official of the Independent Electoral Commission of the Iraqi elections revealed that the lists of candidates for these elections are free of persons whose names emerged in the post-occupation phase, unlike the elections held during the past 12 years. 
    According to the official, among the names absent from the lists of candidates, the current Minister of Foreign Affairs and former Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari, and former Interior Minister and leader of the Supreme Islamic Council Bayan Baqar Solagh. 
    He also pointed out that "the number of candidates amounted to 6904, which is lower than the candidates of the last elections in 2014, where the number exceeded 9 thousand candidates." According to the newspaper "New Arab".
    Among the prominent names that will also be absent from the elections according to the official, Hussein al-Shahristani, Deputy Prime Minister in the government of Nuri al-Maliki, the former leader of the National Alliance Khalid al-Attiyah, and leader of the Supreme Council Jalal al-Din al-Saghir, and former Iraqi Vice President Adel Abdul Mahdi, Kurdish leader Mahmoud Osman and Nassar al-Rubaie, in addition to 20 other personalities, due to their absence from the list of candidates, because they do not have a bachelor's degree. " 
    The Electoral Commission announced Tuesday the registration of 88 lists and 205 political entities and 27 electoral alliances to participate in the electoral marathon on May 12 T next.
