"It is our duty to restore the confidence of the people in the electoral process, and part of that is for the Independent High Electoral Commission, which must work hard to market its new electronic system, which will reduce a large percentage of fraud," Hasnawi said in a press statement.

"It is necessary to encourage the people to vote, because those who demand change should go to the polls to choose the best, rather than raise the people's fears about it," he said.

The former minister said that "the information circulated about the failure of the Electoral Commission to provide electronic counting devices and rely on the system of manual counting if correct, the fears of the possibility of fraud will be considered."

The Iraqi Independent Electoral Commission (IHEC) is preparing to secure the electoral process in the country set by Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on May 12 amid voter fears of fraud in the outcome of the event.
