The United States on Thursday imposed sanctions on five Russian entities and 19 people for what it called "cyber attacks and interference in elections.
"The US Treasury Department's Foreign Assets Control Office has sanctioned five entities and 19 individuals under the US Offenses Against Sanctions Act, as well as Executive Order 13694," the Treasury Department said.
"This measure is resisting Russia's continuing destabilizing activities, such as interfering in the 2016 US election as well as devastating cyber attacks," the Treasury Department said.
She pointed out that new sanctions will be imposed on the Russian Federal Security Service along with the main intelligence.
Russia has repeatedly denied US intelligence charges of trying to influence the election. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the accusations baseless. is over
