    Iraq News , a

local official in Diyala warned of an economic and environmental disaster due to stop the flow of a river irrigation in Jalula, northeast of Baquba, the provincial capital .

"The flow of water has begun to stop in the river, which feeds large areas of agricultural land and orchards because of the residues that led to blockages in its course," said the official, who declined to be identified.

He added that "dumping waste in the river will have negative repercussions on the flow of water, and therefore on the environmental, health and economic conditions." He called for intervention by the Directorate of Water Resources and the imposition of legal procedures on those who exceed water resources in order to deliver water equally to all agricultural lands in the area.
