[ltr]The US Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Monday voted to support President Donald Trump's appointment of Mike Pompeo as foreign minister, and the appointment is expected to be confirmed this week.[/ltr]
[ltr]Republican Sen. Rand Paul's support for Pompeo at the last minute after being opposed to positions on the Iraq war and surveillance and wiretapping issues gave a slim majority to the former director of the CIA.[/ltr]
[ltr]After a vote that was strained by the absence of a member of the committee and a Democratic senator changing his vote from "No" to Pompeo's support, Senate Committee Chairman Bob Corker said "we will report positively to the Council."[/ltr]
