MOSCOW (AFP) - A Russian military helicopter crashed in eastern Syria on Monday, killing two pilots, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"A Russian K-52 helicopter crashed during a planned operation over the eastern regions of the Syrian Arab Republic, killing both pilots," the ministry said in a statement.
"An enforcement team was able to find the pilots' bodies and transport them to the base from which the helicopter was launched," the ministry said.
"Preliminary information indicates that the cause of the accident may be due to a technical defect," the Russian defense said in the statement.
This is the second such incident affecting Russian troops in Syria in less than a week, as the Ministry of Defense announced last Thursday, the crash of the SU-30 SM "off the coast of the Syrian city of Jabala, after taking off from the base of Hameimim, killing pilots.
