    [ltr]French President Emmanuel Macaron said the United States' decision to impose customs duties on European metal exports was wrong and illegal, saying "economic nationalism leads to war."[/ltr]
    [ltr]Washington therefore decided not to extend its temporary exemption to the European Union until midnight on Thursday and would impose tariffs of 25 percent on steel and 10 percent on aluminum. It also canceled the suspension of these fees from Mexico and Canada, while the renegotiation of the NAFTA free trade agreement between the three countries is still in place.[/ltr]
