[ltr]The Turkish government has decided to postpone the filling of the Alesso dam to the beginning of next month.[/ltr]
[ltr]"Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has ordered the postponement of the filling of the Aliso dam until next July and his country has begun supplying Iraq with its share of water," Turkish Minister of Forestry and Water Wesel Aroglu said after meeting with his Iraqi counterpart in Ankara.[/ltr]
[ltr]"Turkey was planning to fill the dam under normal conditions last year, but the Iraqi government requested a delay to 2018 because of the drought that hit the country in 2017," Aroglu said.[/ltr]
[ltr]The Turkish minister said that "his country agreed to the request and postponed the mobilization of the dam until the first of June, and that the process coincided with the preservation of water in part, not total."[/ltr]
[ltr]He said, "President Erdogan, a few days ago, asked to delay the completion of the dam until July 1 next."[/ltr]
[ltr]He explained that "can not be locked water in Ramadan," noting that "the Turkish officials supervising the filling process have opened the gates of the dam."[/ltr]
[ltr]He pointed out that Turkey suffered from the drought in 2014, but still continued to give water to Iraq and Syria.[/ltr]
[ltr]Roglu stressed that the Aliso dam was built to generate energy.[/ltr]
[ltr]The Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources announced that Turkey informed Baghdad that the filling of the Aliso Dam would be postponed until June, instead of March 2018.[/ltr]
