EU warns America: We will respond to any new customs duties
French Economy Minister Bruno Lemerre warned that the EU would "respond" if the United States decided to impose new customs duties on any of its exports to its territory.
"If the United States decided to target us with an increase in tariffs, Europe responded with one voice," Lemerre said, adding that "if the United States targets us again with a 20 percent tariff increase on cars, we will respond again.
"We will try to get President Trump to back down from his decision, so it is legitimate to use the means at our disposal to make Trump understand that we are not accepting his decisions," Lemerre said.
On Friday, the trade war between the EU and the United States was announced with the introduction of additional customs duties on dozens of American products such as whiskey, jeans and motorcycles.
