The Iraqi National Security Council held an emergency meeting chaired by Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to discuss the repercussions of yesterday's demonstrations.

"The meeting will reverse the consequences of what has happened in some areas of sabotage," he said in a statement to the National Security Council, followed by Sky Press.

He added that "the Iraqi government will take deterrent action, against those involved in demonstrations in the country."

Several demonstrations were launched on Friday, hundreds of Iraqis stormed the airport and stopped air traffic, extending protests against the weakness of government services and corruption, after demonstrations in the southern city of Basra.
