The US Congress approved a $ 716.3 billion budget for the Pentagon, the largest budget in history, according to US media.
The Senate passed the Defense Budget Act by 87 votes to 10, while Defense Secretary James Matisse expressed gratitude for the budget approval and "for the bipartisan members of Congress to adopt the defense budget law in record time this year."
The proposal provides for $ 686 billion to be spent on defense spending, including $ 69 billion for operations in Afghanistan and a counter-insurgency campaign.
The budget focuses on activating the capabilities of air, sea and infantry to meet the challenge of arming regular armies, such as China and Russia, and countering the dangers of terrorist groups around the world.
