{International: Euphrates News} warned a British newspaper of the seriousness of the situation in Iraq after the events of the province of Basra.
The newspaper "I", an article by writer Patrick Coburn, entitled "Beware: Iraq's disorders are toxic and may encroach on the entire region."
The author believes that the reasons for the protests that have been raging in Basra for some time now are clear: Iraq is governed by a "political elite with a robotic identity" running the state apparatus as a looting machine.
The crisis comes at a particularly bad time in Iraq, where the two major political blocs have stumbled in forming a government after the May 12 parliamentary elections.
But even if a new government is formed, they may not be able to make a difference.
The problem, he says, is not corruption of individuals, but the system as a whole, where ministries are distributed among the parties that use them as projects that generate funds and sources of jobs favoritism.
Although many Iraqis want radical change, the status quo is difficult to uproot. There are 4.5 million people who receive salaries from the government and therefore have a motive to keep the situation as it is, according to Kobern.
The writer warns that Iraq will probably remain under the mismanagement of a weak government, opening the door to many of the risks, as the organization of a supporter fell but did not disappear completely, and differences between the Shiites are increasing.
He also warns that the political crisis will extend beyond Iraq, pointing out that the Iraqi parties competing as long as resorted to foreign parties serve their interests as well as their personal interests.
