"The decision on the subject of the travel of deputies to Israel depends on the return of the Minister of Foreign Affairs," the Foreign Relations Committee said on Monday.
"So far, we do not have any accurate information about the visit of the Iraqi delegations and we have submitted a request to host the foreign minister to understand the issue and to determine the reasons and circumstances of that visit," Rami al-Sakini, a member of the committee, told AFP. "The foreign minister is currently in travel. "The delegations included Sunni and Shiite figures and local leaders with influence in Iraq, visited the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial Museum and met with some Israeli academics and officials," she said, adding that the Israeli Foreign Ministry supported the initiative without clarifying its purpose.
For his part, a member of the Presidency of the House of Representatives Hassan Karim al-Kaabi asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to investigate the validity of these visits.
Al-Kaabi said in a statement that "the parliamentary foreign relations committee to investigate the truth of this visit and its accuracy, and to disclose the names of officials who visited the occupied territories, especially members of the House of Representatives, that the validity of the visit."
