US senator: Trump discussed with me the use of military force in Venezuela
US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said President Donald Trump had discussed the possibility of using military force in Venezuela.
Graham said in an interview with the American news site "Axius" that Trump "asked him when talking about the crisis in Venezuela earlier this month: What do you think of the use of military force?"
Graham, a close ally of Trump and one of his top foreign policy advisers, replied: "Well, you have to be aware of that; the step could be problematic."
Trump said to him: "I'm surprised, you want to invade everywhere."
"I do not want to invade everywhere. I want to use the army when our national security interests are threatened," Graham told Axius.
"Trump is really mobilized towards Venezuela," he said.
Venezuela has been under growing tension since Wednesday, when Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guido announced himself as interim president of Venezuela until new elections are held.
