Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif accused Israel of "taking the plunge" by carrying out bombardments in Syria, saying he could not rule out the possibility of a military conflict between the two countries.
Zarif told Süd-Deutsche Zeitung that Iran's presence in Syria was at the invitation of the Syrian government, while Israel was violating Lebanese and Syrian airspace as well as international law, Reuters said.
"There is a tendency for adventure on the part of Israel and the tendency for adventure is always dangerous," he said in an interview published on Thursday (February 21st).
Asked if he saw signs of a military conflict between Iran and Israel, Zarif replied: "No, but I can not rule out the possibility."
The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said: "Israel has carried out hundreds of attacks in Syria over the past years, and it will intensify attacks after the withdrawal of US forces from the country."
Speaking at the Munich security conference on Sunday, Zarif accused Israel of seeking war, warning that its actions and the United States increased the likelihood of a clash in the region.
