    Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi criticized US administration's comments on negotiations with Iran following the imposition of economic sanctions on Iran's petrochemical sector, describing US sanctions as economic terrorism that violates international laws and obligations.
    The US Treasury Department announced on Friday that it would impose new sanctions on Iran's largest petrochemical group and a wide network of its agents.
    According to the official IRNA agency, Moussaoui considered that only one week was enough to prove the absurdity of US President Donald Trump's claim to negotiate with Iran. He added that Washington's allegations were baseless, baseless and an attempt to influence public opinion.
    Policy and objectives 
    The US policy of maximum pressure is a failed policy repeatedly tried by its former presidents, and that Washington can ensure that it will not achieve any of the goals set for them.
    The Treasury Department has announced new sanctions on Iran's petrochemical sector, including the country's largest petrochemical group, under the pretext of financial support for Iran's Revolutionary Guards.

    Pressure campaign 
    For his part, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo confirmed that the maximum economic pressure on Iran 's ongoing campaign, calling on Tehran to halt "nuclear threats, and tests of ballistic missiles, and its support for terrorist groups," and to stop the arrest of foreign nationals.
    In a statement issued yesterday evening, Pompeo said that the only way forward for Iran to move forward is to negotiate a comprehensive agreement, including its practices destabilizing, as he described.
    This comes in the context of tightening US sanctions on Iran after the withdrawal of the United States from the nuclear agreement more than a year ago.
    Tensions have doubled in recent days after the US Defense Department announced the dispatch of the Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier and Middle East bombers to intelligence about possible preparations by Iran to carry out attacks against US forces or interests.
