Iraqis are turning their attention to the political and popular circles towards the Peace Palace, where President Barham Saleh is based, awaiting the announcement of the name of the candidate for the post of prime minister and his mandate to form the next government after the parliament accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi on Sunday, and members of the House of Representatives confirmed to "Al-Sabah" that the personality of the prime minister-designate should enjoy the acceptability of the Iraqi street before the political blocs, and be an independent, non-partisan Iraqi national.
"The demonstrators are supposed to have a role to play in choosing the next prime minister, considering that the demonstrators and the Iraqi people are the biggest bloc after the political blocs failed to choose the prime minister according to the base of the larger bloc," said Al-Abyad al-Rubaie, a member of the Coalition's coalition, who called for a "popular referendum" to choose the new prime minister.
"The political system of the country is not presidential and no bloc has the right to hold a popular referendum to choose the new prime minister," he said, adding that "going to the referendum is contrary to the constitution and the law and cannot be achieved at all," adding that "the personality of the new prime minister will come with the nomination of President Barham Saleh and the vote of the House of Representatives on condition that it is accepted politically and popularly."
For his part, the Fatah alliance headed by Hadi al-Ameri, announced his disapproval of a specific candidate for the presidency of the next government, and said Fatah MP Hamed Al-Musawi: "The important criteria that will be adopted by choosing the prime minister candidate and put forward by the Fatah alliance as a prerequisite for the success of the next government, is to be accepted reference and popular, firm, strong and courageous, independent and non-partisan and whose loyalty to Iraq is absolute only, as well as other political leaders current and former."
"The political blocs are at a crossroads with tremendous pressure from the Iraqi people to find a personality that enjoys the acceptability of all political blocs and national consensus that preserves the unity of the country,"" said Mohammed al-Baladawi, a member of the Sadiqoun parliamentary bloc.
While mp Khadija Ali stressed during her speech to "Al-Sabah", "the personality of the prime minister must be able to achieve the interests of the Iraqi people without any influences from any side," explained the mp for the coalition of forces unity al-Jumaily for "Al-Sabah", that "the personality of the prime minister must be an authentic Iraqi, not partisan and independent and must be satisfied with the Iraqi people and the demonstrators before the political blocs accept them."
