The reaction of the political forces in Iraq varied, with Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi mandated to form the new government, nearly two months after the resignation of Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi, under pressure from popular protests. Muqtada al-Sadr announced his support for the new Prime Minister, saying in a statement that "the people He chose him, "considering that this is a" good step "for Iraq.

On the other hand, the National Coalition led by Iyad Allawi confirmed that he did not nominate any person to head the government, refusing that what he described as a "false witness."

The coalition said: "The National Coalition led by Iyad Allawi confirms that he did not nominate anyone for the prime minister, but rather the responsibility of the Iraqi people, especially peaceful demonstrators."

The National Coalition confirmed that it does not accept a candidate "dictated from outside Iraq," saying that he "will not be with any government formed outside the will of the Iraqi people .     "

As for Al-Abadi’s coalition, it stated in a statement that it “reaffirms its assertion that it is not a party to choose the candidate for prime minister at this stage, and that a qualified candidate must gain the confidence of the people.”
He added: "The candidate must prove his eligibility by avoiding detestable quotas and hold all those who caused innocent Iraqi bloodshed in and outside the demonstrations square, and take care of the families of the martyrs and the wounded."
He stated that: "The candidate must return to the state its consideration of recovering the funds and positions that were unlawfully seized, restore confidence in the armed and security forces to protect and defend the people, and hold early, fair and fair elections."
