The International Monetary Fund announced that 12 countries from the Middle East and Central Asia contacted it to obtain financial support amid the outbreak of the Corona virus, indicating that there will be a "difficult challenge" especially for "fragile and troubled countries" in the region, such as Iraq, Sudan and Yemen.

" The fund has been in continuous communication with the authorities in the region to provide advice and assistance, especially with those who are in urgent need of funding to withstand the shocks," Jihad Azour , director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department at the International Monetary Fund , said in a leaflet.

Azour pointed out that work is continuing to "accelerate approval" of requests for assistance, adding, "Our Executive Council will study a request from the Kyrgyz Republic for emergency funding, which may be the first of such since the outbreak of the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Virus , and the Executive Board will consider a few other requests In the coming days".

According to Azour, this "will be a daunting challenge, especially for fragile and troubled countries in the region, such as [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] , [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and Yemen", as "the difficulty of preparing weak health systems for the virus outbreak can be exacerbated by reduced imports due to turmoil in global trade, which has led to a shortage of Medical supplies and other commodities, hence large price increases. Azour also pointed out in his publication to the measures taken in the region to
contain the spread of the virus and its impact on the main sectors rich in jobs, where the rate of canceling tourism operations in Egypt, for example, reached 80%, while the hospitality and retail sectors in the United Arab Emirates and elsewhere were affected.

According to Azour's analysis, the region is likely to see a significant drop in economic growth this year, as stock markets across the Middle East have fallen since February, while oil prices have fallen due to lower global demand due to the virus, and higher supply due to an ongoing price war between suppliers.
