Observers had expected that the closures imposed by the United States to contain the Corona virus, would lead to an increase in unemployment rates among Americans to 15% this month, which is higher than the previous record of 10.8% recorded during the recession in 1982.
Last week, the number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits reached a record level for the second week in a row, exceeding six million.
The US Department of Labor said Thursday that new applications for unemployment benefits rose to 6.65 million.
According to Johns Hopkins University data, the United States is the country most affected by the Corona Virus, it has recorded more than 785 thousand cases, and about 42 thousand deaths.
