Today, Tuesday, the Ministry of Finance confirmed that the change in prices was slight and not due to the effect of exchange rates. Rather, there are merchants trying to achieve a profitable benefit by linking the exchange rate to the price increase in local markets
The ministry said in a press statement, "We are working to follow up the impact of the change in the exchange rate on the local markets," indicating that "we have held several meetings with government officials and representatives of the private and industrial sectors for the purpose of discussing the changes taking place ."
The ministry added, "The Ministry of Planning statistics published included 486 varieties of food items showed after the price change between the month of November for the year 2020 and the month of February for the year 2021 ," pointing out that "change prices was slight and not the effect of exchange rates, but there are traders trying to benefit Profitability by linking the exchange rate to the rise in prices in the local markets.
She stressed, "We hope the relevant authorities will take their role by monitoring the varying movement of market prices to prevent tampering with citizens ' sustenance ."
