An official in the Iraqi Oil Ministry said that the Iraqi Drilling Company has held talks with foreign and Iraqi oil companies to drill 177 new oil wells, most of which are in the oil fields in Basra, Maysan, and Nasiriyah, in the south of the country.
The Director General of the Iraqi Drilling Company in the Ministry of Oil, Basem Abdul Karim, told the government newspaper Al-Sabah today, Monday, that "the drilling company is about to start drilling 20 oil wells in the Nassiriya oil field as part of a long-term plan to share central oil for a period of more than two years."
He added that “the company, after the relative release of the repercussions of the Corona virus, resumed negotiations with foreign oil companies operating in Iraq in preparation for signing postponed contracts to enhance Iraq's oil capabilities, including drilling 37 oil wells in the Zubair oil field for the Italian company Eni, the main operator of the field in Basra Governorate 550, and reaching a preliminary agreement with The Malaysian Petronas Company to drill 28 oil wells in the Al Gharaf oil field, north of Nasiriyah.
The Iraqi official expected that the company would soon conclude a contract with the management of the giant Majnoon oil field to drill 43 oil wells for the Basra Oil Company, and prepare to sign a contract with the Central Oil Company to drill 27 wells in the East Baghdad field, and 22 oil wells in the Bazarkan field and rehabilitate 150 others, in Maysan Governorate. In addition to the conclusion of a contract with the North Oil Company in Kirkuk, to operate a number of drilling towers, rehabilitate a number of oil wells, and enter into discussions with BP, the main operator of the southern Rumaila field, west of Basra Governorate, to reach similar agreements.
